FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

01I’m not working in an RTO or delivering training. Can I still do this transition?

This gap program is designed for people who hold a previous TAE qualification and are working under supervision in a training organisation, or who have access to one and want to gain the updated qualification to meet Credential Policy requirements.

You must have access to a training organisation delivering and assessing nationally recognised training products to real learners in your vocational industry. You will also need a supervising trainer or assessor who holds the TAE Certificate IV or a higher-level qualification to confirm your ability to apply the competencies.

Without access to a training organisation and a supervising trainer who can verify your currency and competency, you will not be eligible for the transition course.

02Do I have the required digital skills?

You will independently use Moodle to access learning materials and assessments. You should be able to:

  • access, read and research information online;
  • download and save documents;
  • complete Word documents and PDF forms;
  • upload assessments to the learning management system; and
  • record videos and share them with your assessor.
03I don’t have much time, so I need to study online.

Our preferred option is the five-day virtual delivery. It provides a structured, supported environment and can be especially effective for people who are time poor. There is some pre-work and post-work, but the workshop keeps the learning focused and contained.

Self-paced online study is available when you cannot attend a virtual class. It requires a high level of self-direction because you will independently work through videos, readings and research.

As a guide, allow around five hours a week for approximately three to four weeks. Your experience and access to colleagues for validation and training activities will affect the time required.

04It’s cheaper to complete online study.

Yes. The lower price reflects that you have access to an assessor rather than a trainer. Your assessor can clarify assessment requirements and assess your work. If you decide you need learning support, you can ask to join a virtual group by emailing info@spectraining.edu.au.

05I prefer working by myself. Can I complete this alone?

Independent study is possible, but completing the transition entirely alone is not. Training and assessment involve working with other people.

Delivering training and mentoring: you need access to different adult learners for a 30-minute, face-to-face workplace skills training session.

Assessment validation: you need an experienced, qualified trainer or assessor who holds TAE40122 or an equivalent qualification to lead validation, plus other assessors to participate.

You may move to the five-day virtual program after starting if you need more support. An additional cost will apply.
